12/07/25 – Race report from Spa 24h

Car :

Mclaren 720 GT3

Drivers :

Robin Katzlberger, Ben Rowley, Tim Brown, Christian Wills, Paul Kitchener, Beth Stibbles

Qualifying:

Robin ran the qualifying session and managed to set the fastest time of 2:17.10 which gave the team its first pole position in gt3. A fantastic achievement which showed the setup had good pace coupled with Robins ability to extract the available performanance

Race:

Robin led the field off from the front and held the lead until lap 5 when Zuper Zaddy Racing took over for 2 laps before Robin managed to return to the front again and led to the end of his stint at lap 24.

Ben took over the car for his 1st Iracing endurance event and settled into his rhythm and the car moved between 4th and 2nd until the end of his stint. Then Robin and Ben alternated their stints keeping it again between 4th and 2nd and in contention. The car was handed over to Tim to start the evening session on lap 95. After an off at Raidillon, the car dropped to 14th with a recovery drive starting. At the end of the stint the car was 12th with Ben returning with Tim following him, the car was rising back up the order to 8th until a car spun at Paul Frere and sent Tim into the wall with another 10 minutes damage in the pits sending the car back to position 31. After Bens final stint the car returned to the top 30 with Tim taking over to do a double and the car climbing backup to 22nd after he finished and handed over to Beth for the overnight team to take it forward. After the next 2 stints when Beth handing over the car to Paul, it stayed in 22. After Christians 1st stint the car moved back into the top 20 despite a touch and a semi spin in Les Combes. At the end of Pauls next stint the car was now up to 17th and handed back over to Beth. At the start of her stint, the car took damage from behind at the bus stop as a car failed to brake for the corner and remaining in 17th with damage until the next stop with repairs for 4 minutes of damage. After Beths stint the car was still around the top 20 with the car remaining in 20th after Christians next stint with however another 4 minutes of damage.

Robin then started the final run into the daytime and served the 2nd drive through for exceeding our incident points, after this he then started setting laptimes in the 2:17’s to recover 2 lost positions. After Beths final stint the car was still running 20th.

However after 8 minutes more damage after an off at Les Combes Robin had plenty of work to do with the car now 26th which it remained their until the end of his stint. Christian was next up for his final stint and he completed it with the car in position 24.

Paul then returned to double stint the car to the flag. Going into the these stints the car was still 25th, however during both stints the car picked up positions and was running in 21st place. Going into the last 5 laps it was bottled up behind the 3rd position car and 22nd place was catching rapidly. At the line the difference was 0.2 seconds between 21st and 22nd and we crossed in 21st, A reasonable recovery coming from 31st to gain 10 places for BSK SimSports 1st 24 hour race.
